About Us

The Go-To Guy is a community platform for the North-West province of South Africa, serving Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, Carletonville, Parys, Ikageng and the towns around them. We have been operating since 2018.

Who owns this publication

The Go-To Guy and its news publication, The Gazette, are owned and operated by The Go-To Guy (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in South Africa.

The company is privately owned and independently funded. We are not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any political party, government body, or larger media group. Our revenue comes from business directory subscriptions, advertising, event ticket commission and property listings — all of which are disclosed on the relevant sections of the Platform.

Our news publication

The Gazette publishes local news for the North-West in English and Afrikaans: municipal and community news, school and local sport, events, local achievements and matters affecting residents of the towns we cover.

Our news content is produced by our own editorial team. We do not republish syndicated wire copy as our own work. Where an article is contributed by a community member, a school, a club or an organisation, it is credited to them.

Editorial standards

• We aim to report accurately and fairly, and to give people named in a critical report a chance to respond.
• Advertising and sponsored content are kept separate from editorial content and are labelled where they appear.
• Paying for a directory listing, an advert or a subscription does not buy favourable news coverage, and does not protect any business from being reported on.
• Reader reviews, enquiries and service delivery reports are user-generated. They are moderated, but they represent the views of the people who wrote them, not those of The Go-To Guy.
• We subscribe to the principles of the South African Press Code in spirit: accuracy, fairness, independence, and accountability to our readers.

Corrections

If we publish something that is wrong, we want to fix it. Email guy@thegotoguy.co.za with the article headline and what is incorrect. We review every correction request, and where we got it wrong we correct the article and note the correction on it.
